David Yurman brooches on the Red Carpet, featuring diamonds, rubies, and rose-cut black diamonds.

When Hollywood’s awards season rolls out, most of the attention goes to the gowns. But if you’re in the jewelry business, that’s not where you’re looking. You’re looking at the jewels… what’s being worn — and how it’s being worn.

Lauralee at Who Wore What Jewels has been tracking that across the Actor Awards, the Oscars, and the Vanity Fair after-party. And when you line them up side by side, a few things start to stand out.

At the Actor Awards, the direction was clear. A 1920s–30s Hollywood theme. That translated into a lot of classic diamonds. Safe choices. Familiar looks.

There were exceptions. A few pieces stepped in a big way – out on design, and scale. Those are the ones worth paying attention to.

The men? Mostly brooches, which is now almost expected. And for this appearance, most were fairly conservative. But on the red carpet — is that really the place to be conservative?

By the Oscars, things opened up. Color started to show. Rubies, especially. Colored diamonds in the mix. Earrings got bigger. More noticeable. Necklaces weren’t just supporting the look — they were the look.

The men loosened up a bit too. Still brooch-heavy, but more variety. More thought. A few risks — thank goodness!

Across all red carpets, one thing is clear. The jewelry isn’t just finishing the outfit. In many cases, it’s leading it.

And that’s where we like it.

What the Men wore at the Oscars

Robert Downey Jr. took to the classic, a Tiffany & Co. “Bird on a Rock” brooch, set with a 39-carat round-oval green tourmaline — a safe choice, and a good look!

Francois Arnaud was wearing David Yurman, a high jewelry diamond wolf brooch. But Michael B. Jordan …

Not to be outdone by Arnaud, Michael B. Jordan wore three custom David Yurman brooches, in diamonds, rubies, and rose-cut black diamonds — layered and worn together, turning the lapel into a star studded event.

Arón Piper wore a Zinnia brooch by Jean Schlumberger, another Tiffany & Co. jewel on the Red Carpet, set with approximately eight carats of diamonds and rubies.

What the Women wore at the Oscars

Priyanka Chopra wore a fantastic Serpenti Illusio necklace by Bvlgari, highlighting a beautiful 14.01-carat antique cushion-cut Madagascan sapphire, surrounded by an enormous number of diamonds, and protected by a watchful diamond, black onyx, and emerald snake, all within Bvlgari’s signature serpent motif.

Vittoria Ceretti was ruby red, wearing a vintage ruby ear cuff on one side, set with 4 large ruby cabochons, balanced by a diamond ear piece, with a Moussaieff ruby and diamond bangle.

Queen Latifah was also sporting rubies, in ruby and diamond jewelry by Lagos, including tassel earrings set with carved amethyst beads, diamond accents, and dangling beaded ruby drops.

The Actors Awards – What the Women wore

Teyana Taylor wore Tiffany, a Jean Schlumberger diamond necklace totaling 47 carats, with the Three Leaves diamond earrings — diamond leaves traced with yellow gold midribs, one of Schlumberger’s signature design details.

Kate Hudson was promoting De Beers’ Desert Diamond high jewelry by Emily P. Wheeler.

Viola Davis wore a fabulous emerald and diamond suite by Pasquale Bruni, including the “Goddess Garden” necklace. This was stunning!

Sheryl Lee Ralph was wearing De Beers diamonds from ears to wrist, including pieces from the Talisman Collection featuring natural GREEN! rough diamond crystals. LOVE that look!
