The BAFTA Awards — presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts — returned with what has become a predictable constant: diamonds. And there were LOTS of them.

But, fortunately for us, that wasn’t the whole story.

LauraLee at WhoWoreWhatJewels.com spotlighted a red magic carpet that moved well beyond simple classic rivière necklaces and stud earrings. Yes, there were high-carat diamond statement pieces — like Kylie’s 71-carat earrings being the obvious headliner. But there was also plenty of color (in diamonds too). There was a two-tone design using colorless diamonds and brown “Desert Diamonds.” Bold David Webb. Brooches — on the men, of course — and not as an afterthought.

And finally, there were some attendees required full jewelry wardrobe changes between carpet and ceremony — two sets, two fashion statements.

In the end, diamonds still reigned. But the variety was the real takeaway. Here is just a sampling – follow the link below for the full coverage at WWWJ!

TEYANA TAYLOR: Tiffany statement. As if the Schlumberger Bird on a Rock brooch with its 54-carat citrine wasn’t obvious enough, she layered on more from the house — a Sixteen Stone ring, an archival bracelet from Tiffany’s vault in gold and platinum with diamonds and citrines, and an outstanding spessartite garnet and diamond ring.

Not quite Fancy, this modified oval brilliant was graded by GIA as Y-Z color (Oh SO close), 2.43 carats, VVS1.

ARCHIE MADEKWE: Classic men’s jewelry. A pinky ring set with a light yellow oval diamond in an east–west bezel setting from Wave Antiques, paired with a diamond brooch by Ara Vartanian.

ALAN CUMMING: Brooch moment. The BAFTA host wore two brooches during the ceremony — one centered with an amethyst (not shown), and the other seen here: the Royal Starburst, set in white gold and diamonds.

GILLIAN ANDERSON: Olympic-torch inspiration. One earring features a torch handle and flame set with brown diamonds surrounding a colorless cushion-cut center. The other reverses the palette — colorless diamonds with a brown cushion-cut center. De Beers has been promoting these lighter brown diamonds under the name “Desert Diamonds.”

GLENN CLOSE: Cherry Blossom Time. Close paired Anabela Chan’s diamond Cushion Wing stud earrings with a Cherry Blossom Branch brooch in black rhodium, set with white baroque pearls.

GUGU MBATHA-RAW: High on Cartier. Mbatha-Raw wore an extraordinary Cartier high-jewelry bracelet centered on a 34.66-carat emerald-cut peridot, accented with black lacquer and diamonds, along with matching ear cuffs.
