A diamond and pearl jewellery set worn by Princess Diana in the weeks before her death is poised to be auctioned in New York next month. Diana, Princess of Wales wore the matching necklace and earrings to watch Swan Lake at the Royal Albert Hall on 3 June 1997.

Photos of Princess Diana that night have gone down in history as it was one of her final high profile engagements prior to her death in Paris on 31 August. Shimmering in a beaded Jacques Azagury mini dress and Jimmy Choo pumps, Diana ensured she made an entrance by finishing her ensemble with the new set of jewels, which came to be known as the ‘Swan Lake Suite’.
