Always looking for a fun use of our language in other industries, sports tend to use “gem” quite a bit, mostly referring to outstanding or exceptional performance by the athlete or team.

In this case, with Racing Australia representing thoroughbred racing Down Under, these three horses were given the name “Gemstone” as a hopeful prognostication. Their records tend to be somewhat Piscean in relation to their given names, brilliant at times, yet underwhelming at others. And that, my friends, is the horse racing gem of the day.

Forbidden Gemstone: a 5 Year Old Mare with a record with ten starts of one 2nd place finish, and three 3rd place finishes.

Fire And Gemstone: a 5 Year Old Gelding with a record with nine starts of one 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place finishes.

Geegees Gemstone: a 5 Year Old Gelding with a record with six starts of one 1st place, and one 3rd place finishes.
