CARLSBAD, Calif. – March 31, 2026 – The new GIA School of Gemology and Jewelry Arts campus in Taiwan officially opened on March 29, 2026. The new centrally located school facility is the only GIA location offering a full program of Chinese language instruction. Just a short walk from Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT station with quick access to Taipei Main Station, Xinyi District and Zhongshan commercial area, the GIA Taiwan campus will also offer flexible weekend and evening classes designed to accommodate prospective students and working professionals.
“Education is the foundation of GIA, and it is crucial that we prepare each new generation of gem and jewelry professionals with the education, skills and experience needed to thrive and succeed within the industry. Our new campus in Taiwan will allow us to expand our education services and resources on a local and global scale,” said GIA President and CEO Pritesh Patel.
“Our Taiwan school is unique in that it will be the only GIA school worldwide offering full Chinese language instruction of the Graduate Gemologist diploma program,” said GIA Chief Learning Officer Cathryn Ramirez. “We are very thrilled about this new addition along with the other upcoming school expansions, including a new location for the GIA school in London and the expansion of our New York campus.”
In addition to Patel and Ramirez, the grand opening was conducted by Vivian Po-Yun Wang, Director of the GIA Taiwan Campus; Jing-Wen Tian, President of the GIA Alumni Association Taiwan Chapter; and Chien-Min Tseng, Chairman of the Jewelry & Gold Association of the Republic of China. The opening ceremony included guest remarks, Lion Dance performances, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a campus tour. There was also a GIA Taiwan Alumni Chapter seminar and meeting with remarks by Nicole Garcia, GIA Executive Director of Alumni Development and Alumni Relations, followed by a closing banquet.
GIA’s original Taiwan school was established in 1991 and has been a longstanding symbol of GIA’s commitment to global gemological education, designed to serve both local students and attract students from around the world. At that time, Sung Hae Moon was managing director Asia Pacific for GIA and helped develop schools in Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.
