Remember those four one-of-a-kind gemstone Rolex Daytonas we posted in or last newsletter? (Tap here if you missed it.)

Well, they’ve been sold. And the results were extraordinary.

On September 28 in London, at Phillips Auction House, the four unique Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytonas representing Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, sold for a combined €43.5 million ($49.4 million).

And our favorite curiosity of the four — the turquoise Summer watch with those unusual “heart of ruby” subdials — brought the highest price.

Summer — Turquoise and “Heart of Ruby”

€12.0 million ($13.65 million)

Autumn — Mookaite and Chrysoprase

€11.89 million ($13.52 million)

Winter — Blue Opal and Lapis Lazuli

€11.65 million ($13.25 million)

Spring — Chrysoprase and Lepidolite

€7.92 million ($9.01 million)

There was no buyer’s premium. The entire €43.5 million ($49.4 million) will benefit the Federer Foundation and Re:wild.

Phillips says the €43.5 million total makes the four Rolex watches the single largest consignment ever sold at a charity auction.

Look at that. Chrysoprase, lepidolite, turquoise, mookaite, opal and lapis helped turn four watches into a €43.5 million charity auction.

We’ve retired “semi-precious.”

Maybe it’s time to retire “ornamental,” too.
