Rio Tinto has announced what will be its final Beyond Rare™ Tender—the third and last of its annual “Art Series.”

This closing chapter, titled Into the Light, brings together 92 amazing fancy color and colorless diamonds, in 52 Lots, totaling 45.44 carats from two of the company’s iconic sources: the Argyle Mine in Western Australia and the Diavik Mine in the Northwest Territories, Canada.

With Argyle having been officially closed since late 2020, and Diavik due to wind down next year, 2026, this tender is very much a tribute to the legacy of both mines. The collection includes six “Masterpieces,” carefully matched sets that highlight the best of each mine’s production, along with 39 single stones and seven additional curated sets.

These Diamonds Are Outstanding!
Rio Tinto’s Patrick Coppens, General Manager of Sales and Marketing, said: “It is hard to overstate the importance of this final collection from two extraordinarily beautiful places on earth – the East Kimberley region of Western Australia and the Northwest Territories of Canada.”

“No other mining company in the world has custody of such an exquisite collection of diamond colours, shapes and sizes and we all pay tribute to the men and women who have worked so hard over many years to bring them to market.”

The final Argyle pink, red, and violet diamonds in the tender come from the mine’s legacy inventory. In other words, these are among the last examples of their kind that will ever come to market from Rio Tinto.

The Argyle pink, red and violet diamonds have been curated from the final legacy inventory, representing
some of the last of their kind in the world:

One GIA Fancy Red

12 GIA Fancy Violets

76 GIA Fancy Pinks, Purple-Pinks, and Purplish-Pinks

Two D-Flawless from the same rough crystal

The collection showcases the quality of production from the Diavik mine with two D-colour, Flawless diamonds, including a 5.11 carat Emerald cut and a 3.02 carat Pear shape, each diamond meticulously crafted from the same original rough diamond.

The collection also includes a Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond weighing 6.12 carats.

The diamonds in the final Art Series, revered for their “pure and clean provenance and the kaleidoscope of colours,” are expected to be in strong demand by the world’s finest jewellers, collectors and diamond connoisseurs.

The 52 lots will be showcased in Hong Kong, Australia and Antwerp, with silent bids closing on October 20, 2025.

How the Auction Works

Bidding in this invitation only auction is silent. No one knows anyone else’s bid. You may bid on any number of lots. You can bid on just one, or a pair, maybe three, or even more. You can even place a bid on the entire collection if you want. After all bids are in on October 20th, the highest bids win. The object of this auction is to bid just high enough that you are the highest bid, without bidding too high. And with this being the very last of the Argyle pinks, violets, and red, you have to ask yourself, “What bid is too high?” – gr
