The Canadian Gemmological Association will be hosting Duncan Parker, Vice President, Jewellery Specialist, at Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers at their monthly webinar.

Parker will be speaking on his latest visit to the Tucson Gems & Minerals Shows – “Discover Tucson.”

“Every year I attend a few of the Tucson gem shows,” says Parker, knowing he will never get to most of the 40+ shows within the city limits. “It would require true dedication,” notes Parker, “and a lack of desire to enter into conversation… and a willingness to fail, to even attempt to attend all of the shows in Tucson on any given year.” (Been there, done that, failed miserably!)

Conversation with the exhibitors is where Parker and the rest of us learn about the gem & mineral business, what’s available, where the materials comes from, and so much more. And he will be speaking about what he has seen and learned.

“The focus for each individual attending Tucson will be different from the focus of any other.” Parker reminds us, “I am an auction specialist, and am principally embarking on a journey to learn when I get up each morning. The AGTA show at the Tucson Convention Center provides an anchor, and an opportunity to see the finest gems, most accurately described, and beautifully presented.” The AGTA GemFair at the Tucson Convention Center (TCC) is the anchor for most of us, where loose gem merchants, cutters, designers, and suppliers show their very latest. But outside the TCC, there are several shows within walking distance. “There are shows that are mainly beads, mainly carvings, mainly mineral specimens, and many shows that are a bit of everything.”

Parker also enjoys Tucson itself, with its country surroundings, desert and cactus, magnificent sunsets, the distinctive Mexican flavors in the food and drinks, “there is no end to any day.”
