This October, Sotheby’s will offer a jewellery collection of legendary provenance – belonging to Dame Shirley Bassey, recently appointed Member of the Order of the Companion of Honour by The King for services to music. The Welsh-born British singer, whose immensely successful career has spanned over seven decades, is offering favourite pieces from her jewellery and watch collection for the first time at auction.

The legendary vocalist, whose career is unparalleled in longevity, success and esteem in British music history, has been collecting jewellery throughout her career. Every jewel in the sale represents a particular moment in Dame Shirley Bassey’s life, as well as iconic performances.

The collection up for auction in Paris, as part of the Fine Jewels biannual sale, will comprise over seventy pieces spanning various styles, from a number of prestigious jewellery brands such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. The majority of the jewels offered feature diamonds – the gemstone synonymous with Dame Shirley Bassey, since she first sang the famous James Bond song ‘Diamonds are Forever’ in 1971.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit Dame Shirley Bassey’s chosen charities.

Shirley Bassey to auction £2m-worth of Jewellery

One big spender could get their hands on Dame Shirley Bassey’s diamonds forever with the singer set to auction some of her jewellery. The extensive jewellery collection up for grabs, estimated to be worth over £598,260, includes a diamond ring gifted to her from Sir Elton John.

Legenddary Diamonds Are Forever singer Shirley Bassey
is to auction some of her “meaningful” jewels, including a diamond ring gifted to her by Elton John.

Bassey (87) famously sang about diamonds in the 1971 James Bond film starring Sean Connery and said she accepted the offer to sing the track as the lyrics “rang true” to her.

The Welsh singer said: “Collecting jewellery for me is like collecting memories and this collection is full of them.
