A Google search for the 4Cs will find GIA’s new consumer focused website under 4Cs.GIA.edu.

While we do not intend for this to be a review of GIA’s new consumer 4Cs website, we would like to point out a few observations.

Easy to See, Easy to Use
If it’s one thing we all know about websites, if it is not easy to look at or easy to navigate, it will not be successful. This site is definitely both visually attractive as well as designed with an obvious roadmap – lots of white space, clear menu options, and nice large images.

The information is quite basic, without getting into the weeds of being technical. And this is how GIA intended it. “The information in our redesigned consumer website is based on GIA’s decades of research, education and consumer outreach about diamonds. We focused on the diamond quality information that a consumer needs to know to understand how to buy a diamond – the 4Cs and how those reflect rarity, the GIA International Diamond Grading System and how we apply those standards, and the importance of having an independent diamond grading report.” – GIA

GIA Press Release –

CARLSBAD, California – September 23, 2024 – Everything retailers and their customers need to know about diamonds just got easier to find and understand with GIA’s redesigned consumer-facing website dedicated to the 4Cs of Diamond Quality – Clarity, Cut, Color and Carat Weight – and to serve as the go-to source for gemstone information. With a fresh and modern design, the 4Cs.GIA.edu site offers invaluable information for those looking to understand the intricacies of diamonds and make informed purchase decisions.

“The GIA consumer site is as educational as it is engaging,” said GIA President and CEO Susan Jacques. “We aim to make the complex world of diamond buying approachable and understandable for everyone. The site provides detailed, expert-driven information in a format that’s easy to navigate. Whether looking for the perfect ring or learning about gems, there’s something for everyone.”

Retailers can leverage this site with associates in-store or online to enhance customer education with detailed explanations and visual aids on the essential aspects of diamond quality. Providing customers with this expert resource underscores transparency and integrity in the industry and can set retailers apart.

The website serves as a valuable educational resource and a powerful tool during the diamond-buying journey. The content will expand to other gemstones in the near future. GIA invites consumers, retailers and diamond enthusiasts to explore 4Cs.GIA.edu and discover the depth of information, all from the experts at GIA. This site is one of the many ways that GIA continues its mission to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and education in the gem and jewelry industry to ensure consumer trust.

We encourage everyone who subscribes to the Roskin Gem News Report to dive into the new GIA consumer site and read what is being delivered. We believe you will see that this leaves plenty of room for the wholesaler and retailer to offer their expertise with those who want to know more.

From our decades of interaction with consumers, we know that they want this information, but it has to be presented in consumer-friendly language so everyone—no matter where they are in their diamond buying journey—can understand it. We chose images to help make the information compelling.

While the initial focus is on diamonds, the site will cover all kinds of topics in gem and jewelry that consumers are interested in – colored stones, pearls, deeper information about diamond quality and more.– GIA
