AGTA Spectrum & Cutting Edge Awards … and the Winners Are …
The AGTA Spectrum & Cutting Edge Awards are the benchmark for design excellence in the world of colored gemstones and cultured pearls. Each year, AGTA Spectrum & Cutting Edge Awards winners set the high bar for beauty and innovation, launch trends, and earn world-wide recognition.
This year’s winners have set new heights for their craft. Yes, we see some familiar names in the mix, including Niveet Nagpal of Omi Gems, John Dyer of John Dyer Gems, Adam Neeley of Adam Neeley Fine Art Jewelry, Inc., and Jeffrey Bilgore of Jeffrey Bilgore LLC. But this year’s stars also include Craig Slavens of Luxe Fine Jewelry, Beatrix Laura Jessner of B & W Jewels LLC, Christina Penuel of Mark Loren Designs, Robin Callahan of Robin Callahan Designs, LLC, and Jutta Munsteiner of Atelier Munsteiner, as well as the teams of Joseph Dardashti & Sophia D. Karmel, Matthew Tuggle, Lauren Tuggle, Ryan Anderson & Kyle Forgey, as well as Philip Louer, Nicolai Medvedev, & Susan Helmich, just to name but a few. The list of winning talented individuals and teams here is almost endless!
Standouts
There are so many outstanding winning pieces this year. Whether you favor the gem materials chosen, the craftsmanship of the cutting or jewelry manufacturing, or the overall design, we admire not only the gem and jewelry artists who participated, but the judges who obviously had an incredibly challenging job.
The Judges
Speaking of judges, your judges for this year were Jean Francois Bibet, Cartier, Peggy Grosz, Assael, Sherry Bender, The Goldsmith Ltd., Susan Jacques, GIA, Suzy Landa, Suzy Landa Jewelry, Jenny Luker, Platinum Guild International USA, and Patti Norville Spector, Gem & Jewelry Exchange. From retail to design, to manufacturing to trade show expertise, these were the experts who judged the results you see below. Their backgrounds are impressive – and lengthy – which is why we give you the link to the AGTA website for more information about the 2024 Spectrum and Cutting Edge Award judges. Tap Here.
Best Of Winners
The Best Of winners are spectacular. Check out the design and craftsmanship of Dardashti’s “SOPHIA D En Tremblant Butterfly” brooch, Dyer’s cutting perfection 33-carat “Montana Sun Sapphire,” or Tuggle’s inspiration in “Whisper of the Ancestors” lapel pin, featuring a beautiful fantasy cut sunstone with schiller… and the hits just keep on coming.
Big is HUGE!
Big gems were plentiful in this year’s competition. Look for these … as we mentioned already, there’s John Dyer’s 33-carat Montana sapphire, but there’s also Marie Fellhauer’s 32-carat morganite! And what about Adam Neeley’s 76-carat aquamarine, Jutta Munsteiner’s 23-carat tourmaline, and Craig Slaven’s eye-popping 13-carat cat’s-eye topaz! But wait – what about Joseph Ambalu’s 27-carat Paraiba Tourmaline, or Adam Gil’s almost 39-carat sphene, and Ben Kho’s almost 13-carat Rhodochrosite? But they all pale in size to Kho’s 109-carat fluorite! And you will just have to check out the pairs and suites – truly amazing to find, cut, and match such fine quality gems.
Carving it UP!
Even the gem carvers carved up a new notch! We seriously do not know how Patrick Dreher can keep getting better, but his pair of mice in “The Encounter,” part of an 1105 gram Agate geode, with Calcite and Geothite inside, looked like they were about to share in their delicious find… a cave of cheddar cheese!
Congratulations to all!
